I was driving home yesterday and the kids were getting out of school - so they had a crossing guard helping them. Very busy road so, this is a good idea. But.... this was a mentally handicapped man. Busy road. Mentally handicapped. Poor little fellow almost got taken out like three times in the space of five minutes. He kept thinking - okay, now I can go - only to immediately turn around and go back to the curb (as not to be taken out by a car) leaving the poor kid accross the street waiting and waiting. (I wanted to yell, "Phsych" every time it happened and laugh... but I didn't.) I think the whole idea is to give people time enough to stop. Once I had the chance, I stopped my car and gave him a very long opportunity to cross the little girl who was very patiently (albeit nervously) waiting.

Click the link above, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see that there are several jobs that are utilizing the mentally handicapped for job placements. I mean, I'm all about having mentally handicapped people working but.... maybe some jobs just aren't a good idea? Thoughts?

Some of the jobs listed are as follows;
Gas Station Attendant, Construction Worker, Credit Representative, Crossing Guard, Bouncer, Data Entry Clerk, Farm Labourer, Receptionist

They all seem like unsuitable jobs! Well, depending on the handicap obviously.

Perhaps this is actually some eugenics experiment in disguise...

The crossing guard down the road from us looks like a kiddy-fiddler. In the summer it looks like he hasn't got anything on under his fluorescent knee-length vest. I hoping there are shorts under there, but...

I was a bouncer once, and most of the dudes I worked with were mentally challenged, mostly from steroids and fake tanning chemicals (how I loath fake tans). I didn't really fit in because I didn't go to the gym, and my natural skin colour is a sort of pale blue, and I could read.

I can't seem to go to the grocery store without running into a mentally handicapped worker.

Actually makes a mundane task like shopping kinda fun.

Bouncer? That could work if you taught them 'scary face' first.

The 'gas station attendant' one sounds a bit dangerous.
