What you get when you send your kid to camp these days...

a pet worm. You heard me right. A worm. No more camp called "A Bug's Life" Lesson learned.

Maybe if I hurry I can sign him up for fishing camp...

a pet worm? What happened to the classics: Sea Monkeys!

I remember arrow making, brother tying up lessons, how to make fires for heating up irons for poking tied up brother, and canoeing (even at the Wednesday Adam's Family training camp we had canoeing - no one knows why). No pet worms? How do you name them? Is there a gender?

*sniff* never had sea monkeys... all the other kids had them. I never did. One of those childhood traumas I have never gotten over...
Well he named the worm after himself (typical male) - as for gender identification... I don't know. Good question...

The earthworm has both male and female sex organs, but it cannot fertilize itself. It mates to exchange genetic material, similar to the way flowers cross pollinate each other. The earthworm mates on the surface at night. Drawn together by scent, the worms lie head to tail, enveloped in mucus. For an hour or more they exchange sperm and store it in a special pouch.
After separating, the worm secretes slime from its clitellum (the pale, swollen section toward the rear of its body). The slime dries into a tube that slips down the worm’s body, collecting eggs and sperm. The tube slips off and the ends seal to form a pea sized cocoon holding up to 20 earthworm eggs. The cocoon can survive drought and frost while adult earthworms cannot. Usually only one earthworm emerges from the cocoon.

That was interesting...for more information go here http://ladywildlife.com/animal/commonearthworm.html
